Water Damage Do’s and Don’ts
DO’S
- Call a professional. Damage from water and bacteria growth can begin within in hours.
- Remove as much water as possible through mopping or blotting
- Remove oriential or area rugs from wall to wall carpeting
- Remove and prop up wet upholstery for even drying and place aluminum foil under furniture legs.
- Remove valuable paintings and art objects to a safe dry area
- Open luggage and place in a dry area
- Open drawers, closet and cabinet doors to enhance drying.
- Turn off air conditioning or other HVAC systems.

DONT'S
- Do not enter a room with standing water until electricity has been turned off.
- Do not use your household vaccum to extract water.
- Do not lift tacked down carpet without professional help.
- Do not use t.v. or other household appliancees while standing on wet surfaces.
- Do not leave books,newspapers, magazines or other colored items on wet carpet.
- Do notleave wet textiles in place, clean and dry as soon as possable.
- Do not remove books from shelves. Rather pack them tightly to prevent warping of pages until a restoration professional can begin specialized drying.
- Do not open doors or windows, because the moisture from outdoors can speed up mold growth.
